I saw the disappointment in your eyes
I felt the shame; the loosened ties
what we had -- could we get it back again?
it seems this distancing will never end
that one look you gave caused so much shame
I can't think how things will ever be the same
some day, perhaps, you'll see that I am trying
that I really do care and that I'm not lying
until then, I will try to avoid your scoff
maybe then I'll see that you weren't far off
