look at them all
talking and laughing
having a good time
with their friends
look at me
why can't I be like them?
why can't they
be my friends?
a girl sits next to me
'introduce yourself'
I say to me
I remain silent..

alone again
I look at them
our eyes meet
I glance away
Robert shakes my hand
introduces himself
invites me to sit with him
I have company..

the next time someone sits next to me
I am more confident
I have more courage
but I am silent still..
